Anger: The Twisted Light A Lecture with Michael Lipson, PhD |

Anger has some wonderful features. It gives us a strong sense of self; it gives us energy; it makes us focus. Still, it offers these treasures in a broken form, and it may lead to further breakages. Novalis asked, “Do we learn to feel only once?” He wanted us to re-learn anger and the other emotions so that they open us outward and upward, becoming ways to know the world. In this evening’s lecture we will consider when anger is justified, how to receive and transform it, and how to keep the LIFE of emotion without its selfishness. Dr. Lipson brings examples from Taoist and Zen traditions, from his clinical practice in Massachusetts with psychotherapy patients of all ages, and from his years of working with children with AIDS in Harlem Hospital, New York City. Michael Lipson, PhD, is a Clinical Psychologist in independent practice in Great Barrington, MA. The author of ‘Stairway of Surprise: Six Steps to a Creative Life’ (Steiner books, 2002), he is also the translator of numerous books by Georg Kuehlewind and of Rudolf Steiner’s ‘Intuitive Thinking as a Spiritual Path’. He teaches meditation internationally.
