New Materials for a New World

Friday 2 July 7.30pm - 9pm

with Dr Carmen Hijosa

The pandemic has resulted in a global increase in awareness of the damage human beings are causing to the environment – from the way we travel to the clothes we wear. Our personal actions can make a real difference to the environment and to the social situation of those involved in the manufacture and distribution of the clothes and footwear we choose. Carmen will outline how a ‘waste product’ has been transformed into an alternative to leather, together with how this has the potential to transform both our lives and the lives of those involved in its manufacture.

Carmen is an ethical entrepreneur with a vision for a more sustainable future, connecting people, ecology and economics. She is the founder of Ananas Anam UK Ltd and developer of Piñatex - the innovative natural textile made from pineapple leaf fibre. www.ananas-anam.com
